Nature parks and beaches

Montenegro is often described as ‘wild beauty’ and indeed it is. In the wilder parts you can still find lynx, jackals, bears and wolves.

Montenegro has made a unique pledge to adopt an ecologically protective policy and now boasts four National Parks; Skadar Lake, Lovćen, Durmitor and Biogradska Gora.

The variety of terrain and climate means that, despite its small size, Montenegro is home to an astonishingly large variety of birds. The main areas for birdwatching are the national parks mentioned above as well as many other fresh-water lakes and also saltpans along the coast.

Due to the quite amazing nature and terrain, coupled with stunning flora, Montenegro has become a very popular destination for eco-tourism. There are now many temporal mountain villages known as eco-katuns as well as log-cabins and campsites for those seeking a genuine environmental holiday.

For those just wishing to pay homage to the sun, there are 73kms of beaches along the Montenegrin coast. Some are sand and some are stones and vary in length from just a few metres to the longest beach, Velika Plaza, at 13kms in length. Some are in front of large hotels, surrounded by commercial premises while others are wild and isolated and often only accessible by boat.
